HMS Codrington 1929 A Class Destroyer June 1930 Sea Trials Photo Print
HMS Codrington (1929), a Royal Navy A Class destroyer and leader of her class, is under way at speed on 4th June 1930 during her contractor’s sea trials, seen from her port side with a bow wave curling at her stem and a white wash running the length of her hull. Smoke streams back from her two funnels, the after one painted with black bands, with a flag at her mainmast and a grey, hazy sky over a choppy sea.
Built by Swan Hunter and Wigham Richardson at Wallsend, she was launched in August 1929 and commissioned on 4th June 1930, the day of these trials, as the flotilla leader for the eight A Class destroyers. She spent most of the 1930s with the Mediterranean Fleet, helping to enforce the arms embargo during the Spanish Civil War, before refitting and serving as a training ship. In 1940 she bombarded German positions around Narvik, brought members of the Dutch royal family to Britain from IJmuiden on 13th May, and then made repeated trips to Dunkirk, lifting around 5,000 men, including Bernard Montgomery. On 27th July 1940 a near miss from German fighter-bombers broke her back at Dover, though her loss was not made public until May 1945.
This print is ideal for Royal Navy veterans, Dunkirk families and anyone with a connection to HMS Codrington.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
