HMS Curacoa 1878 Comus Class Corvette 1879 Photo Print
HMS Curacoa (1878), a Comus Class corvette, lies at rest on lightly rippled water in 1879 with her port side towards the camera and her bowsprit reaching out to the left. She carries a full ship rig on three masts with yards crossed, a single tall funnel set between the fore and main masts and a row of gunports along her dark hull, while a flag flies at her stern under an overcast sky.
Built by John Elder and Co. at Govan and launched on 18 April 1878, Curacoa belonged to a class of steam corvettes that still carried a full sailing rig for long passages on distant stations. Her best-known commission was on the Australia Station in the early 1890s, when Captain Herbert Gibson declared a British protectorate over the Ellice Islands in October 1892 and over the southern Solomon Islands in June 1893. She finished her career as a training cruiser in the Atlantic and was sold for breaking up in 1904.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
