HMS Duke of York 17 King George V Class Battleship 1939 to 1945 Underway Photo Print
HMS Duke of York (17), a Royal Navy King George V Class battleship, is underway on open water in this wider wartime view from her starboard bow, with a broad stretch of rippled sea around her and a cloud flecked sky above. A white bow wave runs back along her side, and her bridge tower and tripod mainmast stand out against the horizon. The photo is not dated beyond the Second World War.
In 1945 Duke of York was sent to the Far East, where she became flagship of the British Pacific Fleet under Admiral Sir Bruce Fraser. She was in Tokyo Bay for the Japanese surrender on 2 September 1945, when Fraser signed on behalf of the United Kingdom. After the war she was placed in reserve and was broken up at Faslane in 1958.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
