HMS E8 E Class Submarine 1916 Photo Print
HMS E8, a Royal Navy E Class submarine, comes in on the surface from a patrol in the summer of 1916, her bow towards the camera and her starboard side in view. “E8” is painted on her bow, and her hull is streaked and weathered from long service. Her crew are spread along her length, a crowd on the bridge beneath the tall mast and more on the casing. One of the two men standing right forward raises a hand to his cap. She slides through calm water under a pale, hazy sky.
E8 was built at Chatham Dockyard, launched on 30 October 1913 and commissioned on 18 June 1914. She patrolled the Heligoland Bight in the first weeks of the war and was then one of the British submarines sent into the Baltic to work alongside the Russian fleet. Under Commander Francis Goodhart, she sank the German armoured cruiser SMS Prinz Adalbert west of Libau on 23 October 1915, and Goodhart received the Cross of St George from Tsar Nicholas II. On 4 April 1918, with German forces advancing on Helsingfors, her crew scuttled her off Harmaja Light to keep her out of enemy hands.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
