HMS Excellent Royal Navy Training Establishment Aerial Photo Print
HMS Excellent, the Royal Navy training establishment, photographed from the air on 24 July 2014, a wider summer view taking in the whole of Whale Island from its sea wall and exposed mud banks to the main road and rows of Portsmouth housing beyond. A large grass field and a green all-weather pitch sit at the heart of the site, with the headquarters building, jetties, pontoons and a moored former warship along the harbour shore to the right and the ferry port's lorry parks in the top corner.
For much of the twentieth century Whale Island was the home of naval gunnery and was known throughout the fleet for its exacting drill and discipline. Its sailors were also closely tied to the field gun competition, which commemorated the naval brigades who dragged heavy guns overland in the Boer War, most famously at the siege of Ladysmith in 1899 to 1900, and which became a fixture of the Royal Tournament until the last run in 1999.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
