HMS Firedrake H79 F Class Destroyer 1935 to 1942 Photo Print
HMS Firedrake (H79), a Royal Navy F Class destroyer, lies moored to a buoy, seen from off her starboard bow with her cable leading to the buoy beside her stem and her pennant number painted in white on the hull. A Union Flag flies at her jackstaff and a White Ensign at her stern, and her banded after funnel, bridge and forward guns stand out in plain peacetime grey against a pale sky.
Launched at Barrow on the same day as her sister Fame in June 1934 and commissioned the following spring, she served in the Mediterranean during the Abyssinian crisis and on patrol off Spain in the Civil War. Eleven days into the Second World War she joined Faulknor and Foxhound in hunting down U-39 after its attack on Ark Royal, and in October 1940 she helped sink the Italian submarine Durbo east of Gibraltar, her boarding party seizing papers that led to the loss of a second submarine. After supporting the Narvik landings and many Malta convoys with Force H, she was torpedoed by U-211 while escorting convoy ON 153 on the night of 16th December 1942, breaking in two; only 26 of her men were saved by the corvette Sunflower.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
