HMS Ganges Mast Manning 1960s Photo Print
The Royal Navy's HMS Ganges at Shotley during a mast manning display, with boy seamen spread out along every yard and up the rigging of the great mast, arms outstretched, and a single figure standing right at the very top. In the foreground a saluting band leader wears a sash bearing the royal cypher ER, while drummers and buglers of the establishment band march in ranks beneath him.
The mast, about 143 feet high, was the centrepiece of training at Ganges, and every boy was expected to climb it. At displays such as this the highest place went to the button boy, who stood on the small round truck at the very peak with nothing to hold on to. Manning the mast became a regular spectacle at Ganges open days and ceremonies.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
