HMS Greyhound H05 G Class Destroyer 1940 to 1941 Photo Print
HMS Greyhound (H05), a Royal Navy G Class destroyer, is under way in wartime, seen broadside from her port side with her pennant number on the bow and her hull streaked and weathered from hard sea time. Both of her funnels carry dark bands, and her bridge, guns and searchlight platform stand out in silhouette against a pale, overcast sky.
Built by Vickers-Armstrongs at Barrow and completed early in 1936, she fought off Norway in April 1940 and lifted 1,360 men from Dunkirk before German bombers damaged her and the Polish destroyer Błyskawica towed her clear of the harbour. After Dakar she joined the Mediterranean Fleet, sinking the Italian submarines Neghelli in January 1941 and Anfitrite that March, and at the Battle of Cape Matapan it was Greyhound’s searchlight that lit up an Italian cruiser to open the night action. On 22nd May 1941, escorting HMS Warspite during the Battle of Crete, she was hit by three bombs from German dive bombers and sank within minutes, with 80 of her men killed.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
