HMS Hawkins D86 Hawkins Class Cruiser May 1942 Photo Print
HMS Hawkins (D86), a Royal Navy Hawkins Class cruiser, lies at anchor on 23rd May 1942, seen broadside from her port side in a bold disruptive camouflage of light and dark angled panels, with a group of men gathered on her forecastle. Her two funnels, tripod foremast and lattice-topped masts stand out against a grey sky over a calm sea, with a low strip of coastline on the far left.
This photo was taken just as she finished a six-month refit at Devonport, begun in December 1941, which greatly strengthened her light anti-aircraft guns and gave her new radar sets for air warning, surface search and gunnery. Completed at Chatham in 1919 and long remembered as flagship on the China Station, she had spent the early war years hunting German raiders off South America and escorting convoys off Africa, and after this refit she went back to the Indian Ocean with the Eastern Fleet for two more years of convoy and patrol work. Brought home for the invasion of Normandy, she bombarded German batteries behind Utah Beach on 6th June 1944, and she was scrapped at Dalmuir in 1947.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
