HMS Illustrious R06 Invincible Class Aircraft Carrier March 1998 With Minehunters Photo Print
HMS Illustrious (R06), a Royal Navy Invincible Class aircraft carrier, leads on the left as a small British task group gathers for a brief rendezvous in the northern Persian Gulf on 13 March 1998. With her come the ships of the Faslane-based Third Mine Countermeasures Squadron. On the right are the Sandown Class minehunters HMS Inverness, HMS Bridport and HMS Sandown. RFA Diligence, a Royal Fleet Auxiliary forward repair ship that supports the minehunters, comes on in the front centre, and the survey ship HMS Herald follows behind. Seen from the air with the sun low and hazy, all six ships head towards the camera on a calm sea, their wakes crossing in long, rippling lines.
Illustrious was the second of the three Invincible Class carriers and was known to her ship’s company as “Lusty”. The Sandown Class minehunters, built with glass-reinforced plastic hulls to keep their magnetic signature low, were designed to find and destroy mines in deep and coastal waters. Ships like these were a familiar sight in the Gulf through the 1990s, where clearing and surveying the sea lanes was steady, unglamorous and essential work. Diligence, crewed by Royal Fleet Auxiliary civilian mariners alongside naval specialists, kept the small ships running far from home.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
