HMS Invincible R05 Invincible Class Aircraft Carrier March 1998 Photo Print
HMS Invincible (R05), a Royal Navy Invincible Class aircraft carrier, comes alongside the American nuclear carrier USS George Washington (CVN-73) in the Persian Gulf on 5 March 1998. She is framed by the dark opening of the American ship’s hangar bay. Her port side fills the brightly lit opening, from the ski jump at her bow to her stern, with Harriers parked along her flight deck and her ship’s company lining the deck edge. Signal flags and an ensign fly from her mast, a helicopter hovers in the clear sky above, and in the foreground the silhouettes of American sailors look out at her across the water.
Invincible was built by Vickers at Barrow-in-Furness, launched by the Queen on 3 May 1977 and commissioned on 11 July 1980. Early in 1982 she was agreed for sale to Australia, but within weeks she was at war in the South Atlantic, and the sale was later withdrawn so that the Royal Navy could keep three carriers. In 1998 she was in the Gulf supporting the enforcement of the no-fly zone over southern Iraq, and she went on to the Balkans during the Kosovo crisis. She was decommissioned on 3 August 2005 and towed to Turkey for scrapping in 2011.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
