HMS Jervis Bay F40 Armed Merchant Cruiser 1940 Photo Print
HMS Jervis Bay (F40), a Royal Navy armed merchant cruiser, lies in harbour in 1940 with her starboard side to the camera, choppy water in the foreground and quayside buildings just beyond her bow. Her dark hull, tall single funnel and two masts still show plainly the lines of the passenger liner she was before the war.
Jervis Bay was launched at Barrow in 1922 for the Australian emigrant trade and was requisitioned in 1939, when she was armed with elderly six-inch guns for convoy escort work. On 5 November 1940 she was the only escort of convoy HX 84 when the German heavy cruiser Admiral Scheer found it in the North Atlantic. Captain Edward Fegen turned her towards the enemy to draw fire while the merchant ships scattered; she was sunk with heavy loss of life, but most of the convoy escaped, and Fegen was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
