HMS Kale 1904 River Class Destroyer 1905 Photo Print
HMS Kale (1904), a River Class destroyer, steams through a moderate sea in 1905 with her starboard side facing the camera and a curling bow wave running back along her dark hull. Smoke trails from her after funnel, a small gun is mounted on the raised platform just forward of her mast, and a group of sailors stands at the stern near a small ensign, with her boats and a large ventilator cowl amidships.
Kale was built on the Tyne by Hawthorn Leslie, laid down on 16 February 1904, launched on 8 November 1904 and completed in August 1905, so this view comes from her first year in service. She was driven by two triple-expansion steam engines fed by four Yarrow boilers, and the raised forecastle of the River Class made them far better sea boats than the turtle-backed destroyers that came before. She first joined the East Coast Destroyer Flotilla, and between 1909 and 1914 she moved through the 3rd, 5th and 9th Flotillas.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
