HMS London D16 County Class Destroyer 1971 Photo Print
HMS London (D16), a Royal Navy County Class destroyer, leads a column of warships in December 1971, her port bow toward the camera and the pennant D16 clear on her hull. HMS Antrim and HMS Norfolk follow astern in line, with further ships faint on the horizon beyond them. The formation was in the English Channel after joint exercises with the RAF in the Atlantic, North Sea and Norwegian Sea.
The County Class were built as fleet escorts around the Sea Slug area defence missile, backed by Sea Cat for close range defence, two twin 4.5 inch turrets forward and a Wessex helicopter aft. Two years before this photograph, London left on Easter Monday 1969 carrying Admiral of the Fleet Sir Varyl Begg as far as Gibraltar, where he was to be Governor. She went on to the Beira Patrol and the Far East, and in October 1969 she led the ships marking the bicentenary of Captain Cook's first landing in New Zealand.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
