HMS M1 M Class Submarine 1917 to 1925 Photo Print
HMS M1 (1917), a Royal Navy M Class submarine, is seen from the air off her port bow as she heads out to sea on the surface, pushing up a white bow wave with a broad wake behind her. Her dark hull carries a bold camouflage scheme, with a jagged white pattern running along its length. Forward of the conning tower lies the long barrel of her 12-inch gun, and flags fly from the mast above her bridge.
M1 was launched on 9 July 1917, the first of a class built around a single 12-inch gun, the same calibre as a battleship’s main armament. The idea was to surface briefly, fire at an enemy warship from close range and dive again, at a time when torpedoes were thought unreliable against a moving target. She came too late to see action in the First World War and served on into the 1920s. On 12 November 1925, while submerged during an exercise in the English Channel, she was struck by the Swedish steamer SS Vidar and sank with the loss of all 69 men aboard. Her wreck was found in 1999 and is protected as a war grave under the Protection of Military Remains Act.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
