HMS Nigeria 60 Fiji Class Light Cruiser June 1943 Photo Print
HMS Nigeria (60), a Royal Navy Fiji Class light cruiser, is under way at the US Navy Yard in South Carolina in June 1943, seen from off her port bow in a bold camouflage of dark sweeping panels, with her ship’s company lining the rails from forecastle to quarterdeck. Her forward turrets, bridge and lattice masts stand out against a bright summer sky scattered with cumulus clouds, above a low, flat shoreline.
Built by Vickers-Armstrongs on the Tyne and commissioned in September 1940, she helped capture the German weather ship Lauenburg near Jan Mayen in June 1941, recovering Enigma equipment and codebooks, and later that year, as flagship of Force K off Spitsbergen, sank the German training ship Bremse. On 12th August 1942, escorting the Operation Pedestal convoy to Malta, she was torpedoed by the Italian submarine Axum with the loss of 52 men, and was sent to the United States for some nine months of repairs, which were coming to an end when this photo was taken. She went on to serve with the Eastern Fleet from 1944, including raids on Sumatra, and in 1957 was recommissioned in the Indian Navy as INS Mysore, serving until 1985.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
