HMS Northumberland F238 Type 23 Frigate September 2019 Photo Print
HMS Northumberland (F238), a Royal Navy Type 23 frigate, from high above and a little astern on 23 September 2019, at sea in the Atlantic on Exercise WESTLANT 19. The camera looks the length of the ship, so the flight deck, hangar roof, masts and the 4.5 inch gun right forward all line up on one axis, with her bow wave and quarter wakes spreading white across dark water. Her pennant number is painted on the transom at the foot of the frame and the flight deck is clear of aircraft.
She was built by Swan Hunter at Wallsend on the Tyne, one of four Type 23s from that yard, launched on 4 April 1992 and commissioned on 29 September 1994 as the ninth of her class. The Type 23 was drawn up to hunt Soviet submarines in the North Atlantic, and from this angle the priorities are plain: the after third of the hull exists to operate and recover an anti submarine helicopter. Quiet machinery and a long flight deck counted for more with her designers than anything carried forward.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
