HMS Obdurate G39 O Class Destroyer August 1942 Photo Print
HMS Obdurate (G39), a Royal Navy O Class destroyer, lies at anchor in August 1942, seen from her port side, newly finished and a week before she was commissioned. She wears a pale disruptive camouflage scheme with darker panels along her hull, and her pennant G39 is painted below the bridge. Her single funnel, lattice-braced mast and guns stand out against low, rounded hills. The water around her is calm under a grey sky.
Obdurate was built by William Denny and Brothers at Dumbarton on the Clyde, launched on 19 February 1942 and commissioned on 3 September 1942. Within four months she was escorting Arctic convoy JW 51B. At the Battle of the Barents Sea on 31 December 1942 she came under fire from the German heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper and was damaged. On 25 January 1944 she was torpedoed by U-360 near Bear Island while escorting JW 56A, but she survived. In July 1945 she carried President Truman across the Channel on his way to the Potsdam Conference. She later served with the Nore local squadron, took part in the 1953 Coronation Fleet Review and was broken up at Inverkeithing from 1964.
This print is ideal for Royal Navy veterans, families of those who served on the Arctic convoys and anyone with a connection to HMS Obdurate.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
