HMS Ocean L12 Landing Platform Helicopter May 2001 Photo Print
HMS Ocean (L12), a Royal Navy landing platform helicopter, lying still in flat, hazy water on 11 May 2001, seen from her starboard side and reduced by the light to outline alone: island, masts, sponsons and the sheer of the flight deck. A cable runs out from her bow and a few of her company stand on the fo'c'sle, with a small open boat and some floats between her and the camera. The low sun is behind her and puts a broad band of gold on the surface, and a faint shoreline shows beyond her bow.
In June 2001, the month after this photograph, she went through Basic Operational Sea Training, in which the whole ship is worked up through fire fighting, damage control and staged action exercises until every department can hold its own. Later in her life she took on duties well away from amphibious warfare. She lay in the Thames off Greenwich as a helicopter base and accommodation ship during the London Olympics of 2012, and in 2015 she took over as fleet flagship.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
