HMS Ocean R68 Colossus Class Aircraft Carrier 1952 Photo Print
HMS Ocean (R68), a Royal Navy Colossus Class aircraft carrier, at sea in 1952, looking down on her port side from a considerable height, her bow towards the top left of the frame. Propeller fighters crowd her after deck, wings folded and packed close together, and each one carries the broad black and white recognition bands worn by Commonwealth aircraft in Korean waters. Her deck letter O is marked well forward, a heavy wash runs the whole length of the hull, and the sea around her is grey and broken.
Ocean's first Korean deployment ran from May to October 1952, with Hawker Sea Furies of 802 Naval Air Squadron and Fairey Fireflies of 825 aboard. Her aircraft flew ground attack and armed reconnaissance sorties against supply routes, rail lines and coastal targets. On 9 August 1952 Lieutenant Peter Carmichael of 802 Squadron, one of a flight of four Sea Furies attacked by MiG-15s, was credited with shooting one of the jets down, among the very few times in the whole war that a piston engined fighter destroyed a jet.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
