HMS Orkney P299 Island Class Patrol Vessel June 1977 Photo Print
HMS Orkney (P299), a Royal Navy Island Class patrol vessel, runs through a deep blue sea flecked with white caps in this colour photograph of 4 June 1977, taken from off her port bow while on passage to Scapa Flow. Her pennant number is painted large in black on the grey hull, a signal flag flies at the masthead, and the White Ensign streams from the after end. A line of sailors is fallen in along the forecastle guardrail, and spray is coming off her stem.
Orkney was built by Hall Russell at Aberdeen, launched on 29 June 1976 and commissioned in February 1977, so this photograph was taken within months of her entering service. The Island Class were modelled on the ocean going fishery protection vessels Jura and Westra and built to commercial standards on trawler lines, made to stay at sea in heavy northern weather rather than to steam fast. Seven were built for the Royal Navy.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
