HMS Orwell M2011 River Class Minesweeper October 1985 Photo Print
HMS Orwell (M2011), a Royal Navy River Class minesweeper, is under way on the River Thames on 4 October 1985, seen across her port beam with her pennant number painted large on the grey hull. A hoist of signal flags flies from the yardarm, the figure 10 is carried high on the funnel casing, and sailors in white caps stand aft among the sweep gear and red buoys, with the White Ensign streaming from the staff above them. The far bank is flat and industrial, with transmission pylons and a tall chimney under a plain grey sky.
Orwell was one of twelve River Class minesweepers built by Richards Shipbuilders at Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth in the 1980s to replace the ageing Ton Class. Eleven of the twelve went to Royal Naval Reserve divisions around the coast and were largely manned by reservists, who took them to sea for training and exercises alongside their civilian jobs; the twelfth served with the regular fleet. Their hulls were steel and based on a commercial offshore support vessel design, which made them roomy and seaworthy for their size.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
