HMS Pelican U86 Egret Class Sloop 1944 Photo Print
HMS Pelican (U86), a Royal Navy Egret Class sloop, working through a grey and broken sea in 1944, seen from a height a little forward of her port beam. Her pennant number U86 shows faintly on worn, weather stained plating, and men in dark foul weather clothing are gathered at her guns and along the upper deck. A White Ensign streams from the gaff below her masthead, with radar and aerial arrays above and abaft the bridge.
Built by Thornycroft at Woolston and completed on 2 March 1939, she was badly damaged by air attack off Narvik during the Norwegian campaign of 1940 and went on to become one of the most effective escorts of her size. Four U-boats were credited to her: U-136 on 11 July 1942 alongside HMS Spey and the Free French destroyer Leopard, U-438 on 6 May 1943 while she was Commander Brewer's ship at the head of the 1st Support Group in the battle around convoy ONS 5, U-334 on 14 June 1943 with HMS Jed, and U-448 north of the Azores on 14 April 1944 with HMCS Swansea. In June 1944 she was escorting troops and supplies to and from Normandy for Operation Neptune.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
