HMS Pioneer 1899 Pelorus Class Cruiser Photo Print
HMS Pioneer, a Pelorus Class cruiser built for the Royal Navy, lies at anchor off a working waterfront in her later service as HMAS Pioneer of the Royal Australian Navy, seen from off her port bow with her two funnels, two masts and the boats stowed amidships all in view. An Australian flag flies at the jackstaff on the forecastle, where a group of sailors is at work, and the White Ensign streams from the staff aft, the combination worn by Royal Australian Navy ships, which dates the photograph to between 1913 and 1916. Wharves, a tall factory chimney and a small steamer show along the shoreline behind her under a flat, overcast sky.
Pioneer was a Pelorus Class third class protected cruiser, laid down at Chatham Dockyard in December 1897, launched on 28 June 1899 and completed in January 1900 for the Royal Navy. She was handed over to Australia in November 1912 and commissioned as HMAS Pioneer on 1 March 1913, among the first ships of the new Royal Australian Navy. From January 1915 she served off East Africa, helping to pen the German cruiser Konigsberg in the Rufiji delta and firing on Dar es Salaam, and she paid off in November 1916.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
