HMS Portland F79 Type 23 Frigate March 2024 In Rough Seas Photo Print
HMS Portland (F79), a Royal Navy Type 23 frigate, drives into a heavy sea off the Norwegian coast on 19 March 2024, the photograph taken from her bridge and looking forward. Below the camera are the rows of domed hatches over her vertical launch silo, and beyond them the after face of the 4.5 inch gun mounting, with green water bursting away on both bows. She was on passage from Trondheim to Hamburg, her part in Exercise Nordic Response finished.
Type 23s were built as towed array submarine hunters for the North Atlantic, and Portland still works in that trade with the low frequency Sonar 2087. Earlier that month she had spent a busy spell hunting a submarine playing the enemy, a part taken by the French, and she and the 814 Naval Air Squadron Merlin Mk2 embarked in her fired drill torpedoes to prove they could work as a pair. She reached Hamburg on 21 March for a short break for her ship's company.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
