HMS Prince of Wales R09 Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carrier July 2025 At Sea Photo Print
HMS Prince of Wales (R09), a Royal Navy Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrier, works alone in an open swell on 5 July 2025, photographed from a Merlin Mk4 of 845 Naval Air Squadron during a day of barrier operations training. The view looks down onto her port bow in low sunlight, her pennant number R09 painted on the side of the forward island, Lightnings drawn up along her starboard deck edge aft and a helicopter standing between the two islands. More jets sit forward on the port side, and her wash breaks only lightly along the hull.
She was assembled at Rosyth from sections built in shipyards around the United Kingdom and was named there on 8 September 2017 by the Duchess of Rothesay, going on to begin sea trials in September 2019. Barrier operations, the drill being practised that day, are the manoeuvres by which one warship in a task group puts herself in the way of an attacker closing the ship she is guarding. She ran them alongside the Type 23 frigate HMS Richmond and the Royal New Zealand Navy's Anzac Class frigate HMNZS Te Kaha.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
