HMS Protector A173 Ice Patrol Vessel January 2017 Starboard Bow View Photo Print
HMS Protector (A173), a Royal Navy ice patrol vessel, shows her starboard bow on 3 January 2017, with a tilted slab of sea ice filling the right of the frame and icicles hanging from its undercut edge. The shallow water below the floe shows a clear green, and sharp snow covered peaks rise behind her across the channel. Her aft crane and the platform over her working deck stand against the mountains.
This was one of her last Antarctic seasons before a long spell away from the ice. The most thorough refit of her career took her to Middlesbrough in March 2020 and kept her there until January 2021, and when she came back to work she went north rather than south. In June 2021 she carried out ice ramming trials in the Fram Strait between Greenland and Svalbard, reaching a point about 1,050 kilometres from the North Pole, further north than any Royal Navy ship had been. She sailed from Devonport that August, bound for Antarctica once more.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
