HMS Raleigh 1919 Hawkins Class Cruiser December 1921 Photo Print
HMS Raleigh, a Hawkins Class cruiser, lies berthed port side to at Pier D in Vancouver in December 1921, the long pier shed running away behind her and her starboard side facing the open harbour. Her bow, with the anchors housed, is at the right of the frame, an awning is spread over the quarterdeck aft and small groups of her ship's company are out on deck. The harbour water is almost dead still and the light is flat and soft.
Raleigh was one of five Hawkins Class cruisers ordered during the First World War as long ranged ships meant to hunt commerce raiders on the trade routes, armed with seven 7.5 inch guns in single shielded mountings. She was built by William Beardmore at Dalmuir on the Clyde, launched on 28 August 1919 and not handed over until July 1921, by which time the war she had been designed for was long over. Alone in her class she was finished to burn oil only, her sisters keeping coal fired boilers in the middle of their machinery spaces. She commissioned for the North America and West Indies Station and wore the flag of Vice Admiral Sir William Pakenham.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
