HMS Resolution 09 Revenge Class Battleship Port Bow View Photo Print
HMS Resolution (09), a Royal Navy Revenge Class battleship, lies at anchor in wartime disruptive camouflage, seen from above on her port bow with her cable running down into the water from the bow. A biplane stands aft near her mainmast, two small craft lie close by her stern, and flat water stretches away to a low horizon. Neither the exact date nor the place is recorded, the photograph being put at some time between 1939 and 1945.
In September 1940 Resolution was the heavy ship of the force sent against Dakar in Operation Menace, the attempt to bring French West Africa over to the Free French. On the 25th of that month the Vichy French submarine Bévéziers put a torpedo into her, and the damage kept her out of the war for the best part of a year: she was patched up at Freetown and then repaired at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. She went on to the Eastern Fleet, where her age kept her from the front line and she was used mainly to escort convoys in the Indian Ocean, working for a time from Mombasa.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
