HMS Sheffield C24 Town Class Light Cruiser 1944 Photo Print
HMS Sheffield (C24), a Royal Navy Town Class light cruiser, at speed in 1944, looked down on from high above and forward of her starboard beam as she drives through a choppy, white capped sea. A heavy bow wave breaks white along her starboard side and her two funnels, tripod masts and forward turrets stand out against a pale, hazy sky.
Sheffield made repeated voyages with the Arctic convoys to northern Russia. On 31 December 1942, covering convoy JW 51B in the Barents Sea, she helped drive off a German force, damaging the heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper and sinking the destroyer Friedrich Eckoldt. A year later, with convoy JW 55B, she was the first ship to sight Scharnhorst off the North Cape, although engine trouble kept her out of the final stage of the action. In July 1944 she sailed for a refit at Boston, Massachusetts, returning in May 1945 with her X turret removed to make room for more anti aircraft guns.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
