HMS Simoom P225 S Class Submarine 1942 Photo Print
HMS Simoom (P225), a Royal Navy S Class submarine, drives through a grey sea on 1 December 1942, photographed from above and ahead on her port bow as white water breaks along her side. A few men stand in the bridge, the gun sits on its platform at the front of the conning tower, and her bow hydroplanes are folded upright on the fore casing. Haze swallows everything astern of her, so sea and sky merge into one.
Simoom was laid down at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead on 14 July 1941, launched on 12 October 1942 and commissioned at Holy Loch on 30 December, so this photograph comes from the weeks just before she joined the fleet. She sailed from Port Said for the Aegean on 2 November 1943 and three days later was ordered to patrol off the Dardanelles, west of Tenedos. She never returned and was declared overdue on 23 November, lost with all hands. In 2016 the Turkish wreck hunter Selçuk Kolay found her about six miles north west of Bozcaada, the old Tenedos, with heavy damage near her starboard hydroplane pointing to a mine struck while she was on the surface.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
