HMS Skate H39 R Class Destroyer Photo Print
HMS Skate (H39), a Royal Navy R Class destroyer, is on the river at Liverpool in this wartime photograph taken from off her port quarter, with H39 painted at both bow and stern and the White Ensign flying from her staff aft. A group of men stands on the fo'c'sle, her three tall funnels rise between the bridge and a raised searchlight platform, and rows of depth charges fill her after deck. The far bank is lined with cranes, a tall chimney and trails of factory smoke under a heavy sky.
Skate was laid down at John Brown's Clydebank yard in January 1916, launched on 11 January 1917 and commissioned on 19 February. She served with the Grand Fleet and then the Harwich Force, and on 12 March 1917, barely three weeks after commissioning, the German submarine UC-69 torpedoed her near the Maas light vessel in the North Sea, killing one of her ship's company. After the war she became a tender to the torpedo school at HMS Vernon, returned there in 1945, and was sold in 1947 and broken up at Newport that July.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
