HMS Solent P262 S Class Submarine 1944 Photo Print
HMS Solent (P262), a Royal Navy S Class submarine, is under way on the surface in 1944, running through sheltered water past an industrial shoreline with a tall chimney, a large storage tank and a church spire. The view is from her port side with her bow to the left, her pennant number painted large on the conning tower and partly hidden, and a deck gun on a raised platform at the forward end of the tower. A few of her ship's company stand in the bridge beneath a small flag, the jumping wires run from bow to stern over the tower, and a low bow wave curls back along her side.
Solent belonged to the third group of S Class boats, built by Cammell Laird at Birkenhead, launched on 8 June 1944 and commissioned on 7 September that year. The later S boats carried extra fuel so that they could work over the long distances of the Far East, and Solent spent most of her war there, often in company with her sister HMS Sleuth. Between them the two boats sank fifteen Japanese sailing vessels and the auxiliary minesweeper Wa 3. She came through the war and arrived at Troon on 28 August 1961 to be broken up.

This print is ideal for submariners and S Class boat crews and anyone with a family connection to HMS Solent or the wartime submarine service.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
