HMS Tantalus P318 T Class Submarine August 1948 Photo Print
HMS Tantalus (P318), a Royal Navy T Class submarine, lies at a buoy in Plymouth Sound in August 1948, seen from her starboard side. She sits low in the water with her bow to the right, her bow torpedo tube openings just showing above the waterline, and a mooring cable runs from her bow to the buoy. Guard rails line her casing, a flag flies from a staff at her bow, and her slim conning tower and periscope standards stand clear against a grey, cloudy sky. A small vessel lies off to the left, with the low green shoreline of the Sound behind.
Tantalus was built by Vickers-Armstrongs at Barrow, launched on 24 February 1943 and commissioned on 2 June 1943. She spent most of her war in the Far East, working from Ceylon and later Australia against Japanese shipping in the Malacca Strait and the South China Sea. Her patrols sank army cargo ships, coasters, tugs and small craft, and she also made an attack on the Japanese submarine I-166. She survived the war and served on into the late 1940s, and she was broken up at Milford Haven in November 1950.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
