HMS Venerable R63 Colossus Class Aircraft Carrier 1945 Photo Print
HMS Venerable (R63), a Royal Navy Colossus Class aircraft carrier, steams at speed across a dark, rippled sea in 1945, seen from the air off her port bow with a long white bow wave curling away along her side. Two Fairey Barracuda torpedo bombers of the Fleet Air Arm are ranged near the after end of her flight deck with a few of her crew nearby, and her island and tall lattice mast rise on the far side of the deck.
Built by Cammell Laird at Birkenhead in just 25 months, Venerable was launched in December 1943 and commissioned in January 1945, then sailed for the Pacific with the 11th Aircraft Carrier Squadron. She arrived as the war ended and joined the force sent to take back Hong Kong, where on 31 August 1945 her aircraft attacked Japanese suicide boats and her landing parties helped restore British rule. Sold to the Netherlands in 1948 as HNLMS Karel Doorman, she later went to Argentina as ARA Veinticinco de Mayo and put to sea against the British task force in the Falklands War of 1982.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
