HMS Whelp R37 W Class Destroyer 1944 Photo Print
HMS Whelp (R37), a Royal Navy W Class destroyer, in 1944, seen from off her starboard bow in soft, hazy light, with her bow pointing to the right. Her light-painted hull carries the R37 pennant, the 4.7 inch guns are trained forward, and a tall lattice mast with radar sits above the bridge, with a dim shoreline in the background.
Whelp was built by Hawthorn Leslie at Hebburn, launched on 3 June 1943 and completed on 14 July 1944. Her first lieutenant for part of the war was the young Prince Philip. On 27 August 1945 she was the first Allied ship into Sagami Bay, leading the way for the battleships, and she was present in Tokyo Bay for the Japanese surrender on 2 September. She was sold to South Africa in 1952 and renamed SAS Simon van der Stel.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
