Royal Navy Merlin Mk4 Helicopter Flight Deck Sunset Photo Print
A Royal Navy Merlin Mk4 of 845 Naval Air Squadron stands head-on to the camera on the flight deck of RFA Mounts Bay, rotors turning, with the sun sitting low directly behind her on 24 October 2024. Four handlers from 1700 Naval Air Squadron walk away from the aircraft in silhouette, two on each side, carrying chocks and lashing chains after securing or releasing her. The ship was working off the coast of Cyprus, flying serials that ran from day into night.
845 Naval Air Squadron belongs to the Commando Helicopter Force, whose Merlin Mk4s carry Royal Marines and their stores ashore and lift underslung loads. The Mk4 began life as the RAF's Merlin HC3 support helicopter; after the fleet passed to the Royal Navy it was rebuilt with a folding main rotor head and tail so that it could be struck down and stowed aboard ship. RFA Mounts Bay is a Bay Class landing ship of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, crewed by civilian mariners, and her large flight deck makes her a useful platform for amphibious aviation training of this kind.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
