Royal Navy Merlin MK4 Helicopter Flight Deck Take off 2025 Photo Print
Two Merlin Mk4s of 845 Naval Air Squadron work from the flight deck of HMS Prince of Wales against a sunset sky on 5 July 2025: one sits on deck with rotors spinning while the other has just lifted clear and hangs in the air to the right. A marshaller with one arm raised directs the airborne aircraft, and a group of flight deck crew walks off to the left in silhouette. Orange light breaks through bands of cloud along the horizon.
This was night flying practice ahead of Exercise TALISMAN SABRE, the large multinational exercise hosted by Australia in which the Carrier Strike Group took part during the summer of 2025. Flying after dark from a moving deck demands night vision goggles, careful deck lighting and close teamwork between aircrew and handlers, and crews must keep their night qualifications current. For the Commando Helicopter Force, night work is central to getting Royal Marines ashore unseen.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
