RAF 209 Squadron Saro Lerwick L7265 Loch Ryan March 1941 Photo Print
A Royal Air Force Saunders-Roe Lerwick flying boat of 209 Squadron, L7265, coded WQ-Q, races across Loch Ryan on her take-off run in March 1941, seen from low on the water off her port bow with spray streaming back from the hull. Both propellers are spinning, the near wingtip float hangs just clear of the water, and the low hills of the shore run along the horizon under a grey, overcast sky.
Saunders-Roe built the Lerwick to serve alongside the Short Sunderland in Coastal Command, and it first flew in November 1938. It proved unstable and difficult to handle. 209 Squadron took it into service in place of its Stranraers, but the whole fleet was grounded twice for safety changes, and in its two attacks on U-boats neither submarine was damaged. Only 21 were built, and almost half were lost in accidents. 209 Squadron began changing to Catalinas a month after this photo was taken. L7265 went on to an operational training unit and was written off in a landing crash in December 1941.
This print is ideal for 209 Squadron, Coastal Command and RAF veterans and anyone with a connection to the Saro Lerwick or the flying boat bases of western Scotland.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
