RAF 240 Squadron Stranraer K7295 BN-L Loch Ryan 1940 to 1941 Photo Print
Supermarine Stranraer Mk I K7295, a Royal Air Force Coastal Command biplane flying boat of 240 Squadron, alights on Loch Ryan near Stranraer, coming almost head-on towards the camera with spray rising from her hull. Her twin radial engines, the strut-braced biplane wings with a float beneath each lower wingtip, and the squadron’s BN code on the hull are all visible, with a steamer and the far shore of the loch behind under a heavy grey sky.
The Stranraer was the last and fastest biplane flying boat to serve with the RAF. It first flew on 24th July 1934 and joined front-line squadrons in 1937, and its maze of struts and wires earned it the nickname “the Whistling Birdcage”. 240 Squadron, re-formed at Calshot in 1937, took over Stranraers in June 1940. The following month it moved to Stranraer on Loch Ryan to fly patrols over the Western Approaches. Early in 1941 the squadron gave up its biplanes for Catalinas and moved on to Northern Ireland, and the Stranraer made its last flight in RAF service in October 1942.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
