RAF 27 Squadron Chinook Underslung Load Afghanistan 2011 Photo Print
A Royal Air Force Chinook of 1310 Flight, 27 Squadron, hovers a few feet above a gravel landing site in Afghanistan in 2011 to collect a netted underslung load bound for a Forward Operating Base. Seen from low down on her starboard side, she has her wheels down and her rotor blades blurred, with a door gunner manning a machine gun at the forward cabin door and a pilot visible through the cockpit glazing. Beneath her a soldier in desert camouflage and helmet crouches beside the bundle of stores, with the base’s perimeter fence and buildings behind under a sky of broken white cloud.
No. 27 Squadron began life as a Royal Flying Corps squadron at Hounslow Heath during the First World War. Its elephant badge recalls its first operational aircraft, the Martinsyde G.100 “Elephant”, and the years it spent in India. The squadron number passed to the Chinook training unit at RAF Odiham in 1993, and in Helmand its crews served in rotation with 1310 Flight, the RAF Chinook detachment in Afghanistan.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
