RAF 293 Squadron Warwick ASR BV502 ZE-N Foggia 1945 Photo Print
Vickers Warwick ASR Mk I BV502, a Royal Air Force air-sea rescue aircraft of 293 Squadron, stands at her dispersal at Foggia in Italy, seen side-on from her port side beyond a thick carpet of poppies and daisies. Her crew stand together by the nose on the sunlit hardstanding, and her ZE-N codes, roundel, fin flash and nose and dorsal turrets show clearly, with low buildings on the far edge of the flat airfield.
293 Squadron was formed at Blida in Algeria on 28th November 1943 from the Warwick detachments of 283 and 284 Squadrons, taking as its motto “Ex aere salus”, meaning safety from the air. It moved its headquarters to Pomigliano near Naples in March 1944 and sent detachments up and down the Italian coast, adding Walrus amphibians that April to pick survivors out of the sea. The squadron moved to Foggia in March 1945 for the final months of the war in Italy. It returned to Pomigliano that June and was disbanded there on 5th April 1946.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
