RAF 52 Squadron Fairey Battle K7602 Upwood 1937 to 1938 Photo Print
A Royal Air Force Fairey Battle Mk I light bomber of 52 Squadron, serial K7602, stands on wet hardstanding at RAF Upwood between 1937 and 1938, seen side-on from her starboard side with chocks under her main wheels. The squadron number 52 and the aircraft letter B are painted either side of the fuselage roundel in the pre-war style, the serial is repeated on the fin and rear fuselage, and a large hangar with banks of tall windows fills the background.
Designed by Fairey Aviation in the mid-1930s as a monoplane successor to the Hawker Hart and Hind biplanes, the Battle carried a crew of three and was powered by the same Rolls-Royce Merlin as the Hurricane and Spitfire. It was a big step forward when it entered service in 1937, but by the outbreak of war it was too slow and too lightly armed to survive against modern fighters. Battles of the Advanced Air Striking Force suffered very heavy losses in France in May 1940, when an attack on the Maastricht bridges earned Flying Officer Donald Garland and Sergeant Thomas Gray of 12 Squadron the first RAF Victoria Crosses of the war. The type was then withdrawn from front-line bombing and spent the rest of its career as a trainer and target tug.
This print is ideal for 52 Squadron and RAF veterans and anyone with a connection to the Fairey Battle or RAF Upwood.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
