RAF 78 Squadron Whitley V T4131 EY-W in Flight c1940 Photo Print
Armstrong Whitworth Whitley Mk V T4131, a Royal Air Force twin-engined night bomber of 78 Squadron, flies overhead against a pale sky, seen from below and off her port bow, around 1940. Her black undersides carry the code letter W and her serial aft of the fuselage roundel, with both propellers turning and the fixed tailwheel visible beneath the tail.
78 Squadron was formed on 1st November 1916 as a Royal Flying Corps home defence unit, and after reforming in 1936 it received Whitleys at Dishforth in Yorkshire in July 1937. It spent the opening months of the war as a training squadron before returning to the front line in July 1940. In February 1941 its Whitleys helped drop paratroops over southern Italy in Operation Colossus, the first British airborne operation of the war. The squadron changed over to the Halifax in March 1942, and its number plate is carried today by RAF (Unit) Swanwick in Hampshire.
This print is ideal for 78 Squadron and RAF veterans, Bomber Command families, and anyone with a connection to the Whitley squadrons of 4 Group in Yorkshire.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
