RAF Bristol Britannia C2 XN392 Acrux Overhead 1964 Photo Print
A Royal Air Force Bristol Britannia C.2, XN392 “Acrux” of Transport Command, passes overhead in 1964, photographed from almost directly beneath. The view shows the long, slender wing with roundels and the serial beneath each side, all four turboprops with their propellers turning, the fin flash and “392” on the fin, and the nose wheel lowered.
Known as the “Whispering Giant” for how quiet it was for its size, the Britannia gave Transport Command a true long-range strategic airlifter. XN392 was built at Belfast, first flew in October 1958 and was delivered to No. 99 Squadron at RAF Lyneham in September 1959. From 1961 it flew in the shared 99 and 511 Squadron Britannia pool, carrying troops and freight around the world. After the RAF retired its Britannias in the mid-1970s, it was sold for spares and broken up in April and May 1976.
This print is ideal for Nos. 99 and 511 Squadron and RAF veterans, and anyone with a connection to the Britannia or RAF Lyneham.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
