RAF Chinooks Lift Off Lashkar Gah Afghanistan January 2012 Photo Print
Two Royal Air Force Chinook helicopters climb away from a landing zone in Lashkar Gah district, Helmand, in January 2012, having just inserted soldiers of the Queen’s Royal Hussars Battle Group and Afghan National Police on Operation ZMARAY IBDA. The nearer Chinook is only a few feet above a flat field of dry, trampled earth, wheels still down and rotor blades blurred, while the second follows at a distance to the right. A line of bare winter trees runs along the horizon under a pale, overcast sky.
The Royal Air Force has flown the tandem-rotor Boeing Chinook since the early 1980s, and it remains the service’s heavy-lift helicopter. During the Falklands War in 1982 a single RAF Chinook, Bravo November, carried the whole of the heavy-lift load after its sister aircraft were lost with the Atlantic Conveyor. Through the long British campaign in Helmand the Chinook fleet was the main means of moving troops, supplies and casualties across the province.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
