RAF 617 Squadron F-35B Lightning Vapour Cone July 2023 Photo Print
A Royal Air Force F-35B Lightning pulls a thick cone of vapour around its fuselage as it streaks past HMS Queen Elizabeth on 13 July 2023. The nose number 027 and the jet's dark grey finish show through the condensation, against a sky of broken white cloud. The aircraft belonged to 617 Squadron from RAF Marham, which spent several days aboard the ship that month for an Aviation Integration Period ahead of the Carrier Strike Group 2023 deployment.
A vapour cone forms when a fast-moving aeroplane creates a sudden drop in air pressure, briefly condensing the moisture in humid air into a visible shroud. 617 Squadron, famous for the 1943 Dambusters raid, reformed on the F-35B in April 2018 and flew its first jets across the Atlantic to Marham that June, becoming the first UK-based Lightning squadron. Its short take-off and vertical landing ability lets the aircraft operate from the decks of the Royal Navy's two largest warships as well as from land.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
