RAF Merlin HC3 Embarking Troops Camp Bastion October 2011 Photo Print
A Royal Air Force Merlin HC3 waits with its rotors turning outside the passenger handling facility on the Camp Bastion airfield in Helmand, Afghanistan, in October 2011, as soldiers of 20th Armoured Brigade come aboard. Seen close up from the front, with its nose to the right, the Merlin fills most of the picture, its pilots behind the broad windscreen and a machine gun barrel jutting from a forward window. On the left a small group of soldiers in body armour and helmets gather at the cabin door with their kit, one carrying a large pack and another a blue holdall.
The RAF’s Merlin force was strengthened for Afghanistan in 2007 when six extra aircraft were bought from Denmark and brought into service as the HC3A. In October 2011, when this photograph was filed, 20th Armoured Brigade was taking over command of Task Force Helmand for Operation Herrick 15. The Merlins later passed from the RAF to the Royal Navy’s Commando Helicopter Force in 2014, where they were rebuilt as the HC4 for operations at sea.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
