RAF Merlin Soldiers Board Omid Haft Helmand May 2011 Photo Print
Soldiers board a Royal Air Force Merlin helicopter during Operation Omid Haft in central Helmand, Afghanistan, in May 2011. The Merlin sits low in a field of ripe, golden crop flattened by her rotors, with “ROYAL AIR FORCE” and the roundel on her side and both engine exhausts above. Two soldiers in body armour and helmets climb in at the rear under a clear blue sky, one carrying coils of grey and red climbing rope and a slung ladder hung with orange karabiners.
The Merlin HC3 entered Royal Air Force service in 2001 with 28 Squadron at RAF Benson, giving the RAF a three-engined medium helicopter that could carry around two dozen troops. After service in Iraq, the RAF Merlin force deployed to Helmand in late 2009 and flew troops and supplies across the province alongside the Chinook. The aircraft later passed to the Royal Navy’s Commando Helicopter Force in 2014, where they were rebuilt as the Merlin HC4.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
