RAF Miles Martinet TT I HN861 in Flight 1942 to 1943 Photo Print
Miles Martinet TT I HN861, a Royal Air Force target-towing aircraft, flies from left to right against a plain grey sky, seen side-on from her starboard side with her main wheels retracted. Her long glazed canopy over the two-seat cockpit, the fuselage roundel, the fin flash and her serial all show clearly, with the fixed tailwheel below the fin and the propeller turning at the nose.
The Martinet was the first British aircraft designed from the start for target towing. Until then the RAF had towed gunnery targets with worn-out frontline types, and the Air Ministry wanted those aircraft kept for operations. Miles developed it from the Master II trainer under Specification 12/41, with a longer nose, a stronger airframe and a winch-operated target drogue stowed beneath the fuselage. The prototype first flew from Woodley on 24th April 1942, and 1,724 were built. They served gunnery schools, anti-aircraft cooperation squadrons and Fleet Air Arm units well into the post-war years.
This print is ideal for RAF and Fleet Air Arm veterans, air gunners and anti-aircraft gunners who trained against the drogue, and anyone with an interest in Miles aircraft.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
